The San Francisco Bay area has 8 toll bridges that are part of the Bay Area Toll Authority. This does not include the Golden Gate Bridge, which has an independent toll system.
The Golden Gate Bridge does not offer an option to pay cash at the bridge entrance. One of the following guidelines must be followed to make payment for using the Golden Gate Bridge:
One-Time Online Payment
- Go to https://www.bayareafastrak.org/en/howitworks/oneTime.shtml
- The toll can be paid before crossing or within 48 hours of crossing the bridge.
FasTrak Account
- Go to https://www.bayareafastrak.org/en/signup/signup.shtml
- Create an account or log in to a current account
- Get your toll tag and put it in your vehicle
- Prepay your tolls (this is required with the FasTrak account)
- Get a discount on your toll fees
- Carpooling requires FasTrak to be used as the required method of payment.
License Plate Account
- Go to https://www.bayareafastrak.org/en/signup/licenseprep.shtml
- Create an account or log in to a current account
- Select your choice of prepaying toll fees or using a credit card for automatic payment (your identity is verified using your license plate, then your card is charged)
- This option does not offer a discount.
Toll Invoice
- This method uses the mail to send you a bill when your toll isn’t paid using one of the above methods. Pay using one of the following methods:

- Send your payment to:
- FasTrak Invoices, P.O. Box 26926, San Francisco, CA 94126
- Pay via phone by calling 877-229-8655 or outside the U.S. call 415-486-8655
- Pay in person at the Bay Area FasTrak Customer Service Center
- FasTrak Customer Service Center at 375 Beale Street, San Francisco, CA 94126
- Go to a cash payment location

- Benicia-Martinez Bridge
- Carquinez Bridge
- Dumbarton Bridge
- Richmond-San Rafael Bridge
- San Mateo-Hayward Bridge
The following guidelines can be followed to pay the Bay Area Bridge tolls:
Cash Pay
Cash tolls may be suspended, all details can be obtained on the FasTrak Bay Area website.
When cash is being accepted, employees staff the Toll Authority booths. They accept cash only. Debit cards, credit cards, and checks are not accepted at the toll booths.
FasTrak Account
- Go to https://www.bayareafastrak.org/en/signup/signup.shtml
- Create an account or log in to a current account
- Get your toll tag and put it in your vehicle
- Prepay your tolls (this is required with the FasTrak account)
- Get a discount on your toll fees
- Carpooling requires FasTrak to be used as the required method of payment.
- This is also an option for the Golden Gate Bridge, making it the simplest payment method if you utilize both Bay area bridge authorities because you can use the same account.
